I have a message for Mr. DeMint. I have lived in Delaware my entire life. I wouldn't vote for Christine O'Donnell if she were the only person running. She is a complete nutbag. She is accusing Mike Castle of running a negative campaign, however the stuff she said about him in the last two weeks was not only negative, it was personal and it was nasty.

She hasn't had a job in years. She has defaulted on loans and mortgages. She doesn't pay her campaign staff and she is living and paying personal expenses with campaign donations. There are conservatives in Delaware, but Christine doesn't stand a snowballs chance in you know where of being elected here.

Great essay, Gina (A). I like the way you've scripted the beginning, and I appreciate your comments about the other students' book reviews in the class.

Rosenblatt would argue (and I've come to believe) that a student's response to a text is always "the right answer." That is, it's their answer and a place to begin. The target is not the text or the ultimate true response; the target is a student's growing engagement. And that engagement can't begin until there's an opening, a "Yes, tell me more."

I'm glad you were able to join this class, and I'm happy that you believe that it will have value in your teaching this year.

WASHINGTON (June 10) – Senate Republicans blocked a proposal Tuesday to tax the windfall profits of the largest oil companies, despite pleas by Democratic leaders to use the measure to address America's anger over $4 a gallon gasoline.
The Democratic energy package would have imposed a tax on any "unreasonable" profits of the five largest U.S. oil companies and given the federal government more power to address oil market speculation that the bill's supporters argue has added to the crude oil price surge. The five largest U.S. oil companies earned $36 billion during the first three months of this year.

More proof that the republicans are in bed with the big oil companies, the real terrorists we need to be worrying about now.

Will the decentralisation of power envisaged in the health service reforms take the 'national' out of the NHS? 10.01am: We've scanned the media so you don't have to … here is our morning round-up of all the health news on the web and online: In the Belfast Telegraph there's a story claiming a third GPs are planning to leave the NHS in the next five years, with some blaming the Government's health reforms. The snapshot poll of 576 GPs found family doctors under strain, with 46% saying they suffer stress, 19% having anxiety and 7% suffering from depression. Overall, 71% said the Government's health Bill had "slightly damaged" or "greatly damaged" their morale. Meanwhile Matthew Taylor, former head of the Downing Street policy unit under Tony Blair in the Financial Times says the coalition is in trouble – with the NHS reforms an emblem of its plight. (The) reform voters care most about is the NHS – and here, just as with the AV campaign, the hope of a new politics now rings hollow. The…

Rents are now 4.2% higher than last year, according to the LSL index, with the average £25,000 deposit proving too much for hopeful buyers The average rent rose by 0.4% in March as landlords enjoyed a surge in demand from would-be first-time buyers struggling to make a purchase, the LSL Property Services buy to let index has found. The increase to about £685 a month marks the second month in a row that prices have risen. Rent is now 4.2% higher than this time last year and is at its most expensive since November 2010. Landlords are benefitting from first-time buyers being forced to stay in rented accommodation as they struggle to save deposits. LSL says that despite higher loan-to-value mortgages coming on to the market, many young people simply cannot afford the average £25,000 deposits needed to get on the property ladder. Liberal Democrat MP Stephen Gilbert has joined those struggling to save a deposit while paying rent, after admitting that despite earning nearly £66,000 a year he…
